Your Forest Looks Eligible For Carbon Credits

You’re in a strong position to start earning carbon credits

Why you got this result:

Based on your survey answers, your forest meets the key criteria for the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). That means it likely has:

  • Tree species that are eligible

  • Sufficient size and canopy cover

  • An establishment date after 1989

What is the ETS?

The ETS is New Zealand’s system for managing carbon emissions. If you have eligible forest, you can earn New Zealand Units (NZUs) — also known as carbon credits — for the carbon your forest absorbs. These can be sold, held, or used to offset emissions.

Your Next Step: ETS Eligibility Assessment

The ETS Eligibility Assessment confirms your forest qualifies for carbon credits, and what it could earn.

  • Confirm Your Eligibility

  • What You Could Earn

  • What It Costs to get Started

How It Works

Step 1: Fill in the form below to provide us with info about your property

Step 2: We’ll map you land and confirm you have forest that is eligible, then we’ll calculate what you could earn

Step 3: We’ll provide you a report detailing eligible areas, potential returns and the costs to get started

What’s Included

  • Detailed mapping of your forest areas

  • Eligibility confirmation based on MPI’s ETS criteria

  • Carbon income projections over 25 years

  • Registration cost estimates and next-step guidance

  • A plain-English report you can use to make an informed decision

Whether your forest is already established, recently planted, or somewhere in between, this step gives you the clarity to move forward — or hold off — with confidence.

What Does it Cost?

The cost of the ETS Eligibility Assessment is $390+ GST

This is a one-time fee for the full report and analysis. No hidden costs. No obligation to register. Once booked, we’ll send you an invoice for the fee. You can pay by direct credit or credit card.

Then we’ll confirm your property details and get started on your report.

Why Act Now?

If you register your forest in the ETS before 31 Dec 2025 you can claim claim backdated carbon credits from the start of 2023.

But, if you miss the 31 December deadline, you’ll earn credits starting from 1 January 2026. Missing out on three years of carbon income!

Getting an ETS application approved through MPI can take up to 4 months.

  • You must be approved before 31 Dec 2025 to claim backdated credits.

  • That means applications should be underway by August 2025 at the latest.

Time is running out!
